World championship boxing makes its return to Wales on 4th June when Joe Cordina gets his shot at IFB Super-Featherweight world champion Kenichi Ogawa.

The undefeated Welshman extended his professional record to 14-0 with his latest victory over Miko Khatchatryan, a convincing unanimous decision win in Liverpool last December, winning the WBA Continental Super-Featherweight belt in the process.

Cordina has yet to be tested during his career, which has involved British and Commonwealth title victories.

Ogawa burst onto the scene in October, defeating Azinga Fuzile for the IBF 130-pound title on the undercard of Teofimo Lopez vs. George Kambosos Jr. The Japanese fighter dropped Fuzile three times en route to a unanimous decision victory in New York.

When is Cordina vs Ogawa?

Cordina’s world title clash with Ogawa will take place on Saturday June 4 in the UK.

The fight will take place at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Wales.

There will be around 6,000 fans in attendance at the event.

What has been said?

Joe Cordino : “I have dedicated my whole life to boxing and putting myself in this position,” he said.

“Now it all comes down to this opportunity, my world title shot.

“It is a lifelong dream of mine to become World Champion and a springboard to secure my family’s future and make all the moments lost with them worthwhile.

“I will take this opportunity with both hands; I am prepared to do whatever it takes to win and be crowned the new IBF Super Featherweight World Champion.”

Ogawa : “First of all, I want to thank Mr. Eddie Hearn for this opportunity,” said Ogawa. “Hello to Team Cordina. I am disappointed that I could not attend the launch press conference but I’m looking forward to fighting in Cardiff. Let’s be in our best shape for this fight. But I will be the one to win this fight.
