Two decorated fighters clash inside Madison Square Garden's Hulu Theater on June 10. Josh Taylor, a little lighter on the waist, will defend the WBO and The Ring super lightweight titles against former lightweight king Teofimo Lopez.
A 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Taylor turned pro in 2015. A former Commonwealth super lightweight champion, Taylor made himself known by competing in the World Boxing Super Super Series light welterweight tournament in 2018. "The Tartan Tornado" beat Ryan Martin in the quarter-finals, Ivan Baranchyk in the semi-finals for the IBF title, and Regis Prograis in the finals for the WBA and The Ring belts.
Showing signs of doubt following his performance against Sandor Martin, Lopez will look to prove detractors, including himself, wrong on fight night.
Here is all you need to know ahead of Taylor vs. Lopez.
- This title fight will take place on Saturday, June 10.
- It will be held at Madison Square Garden in New York.
- Fight night is scheduled to begin at 1am UK time with the main event ringwalks expected to get underway at around 4:30am on Sunday morning for UK fans.
Taylor is hoping that winning this fight will help him become a boxing legend.
He said: "These are the kind of fights, all these big names in the sport that keep the motivation and the fire burning in my belly and give me that excitement and that buzz.
"The fire's clearly burning. I'm really excited to be here and boxing in the Mecca of boxing. Madison Square Garden is where all the giants and all the legends of the sport have boxed in the past.
“Hopefully I can do this fight and I become a legend, a present legend."
Taylor has also predicted that he will win by knockout, saying: "I think it's going to be great while it lasts.
“I think one of us is getting knocked out, and I don't think it's going to be myself that's for sure."
