The WBC world bantamweight title fight between former four-division champion Nonito Donaire Jr. and Alexandro Santiago is set in stone in the co-main event of Frank Martin vs. Artem Harutyunyan on Showtime Boxing on July 15 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The 40-year-old Donaire will have a chance to break his own record of being the oldest bantamweight world champion in history when he fights Santiago for the WBC title, which was vacated by his old foe Naoya Inoue earlier this year.
Here's everything you need to know ahead of Nonito Donaire vs Alexandro Santiago.
Date: Saturday, July 15.
Time: at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT.
The fight will be held at the Chelsea Ballroom at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
“I’m coming to the ring on July 15 to take that belt home, and there’s no second option for me,” said Donaire. “I’m thankful to my team for this opportunity, and I’ve been training hard to make the most of it. I’ve brought in some really fast fighters who have helped me prepare, and my team has really focused on giving me some defensive pointers. I’m ahead of schedule right now, and I can’t wait to get in there.”
Santiago is a 27-year-old Mexican fighter out of Tijuana. He holds a record of 27-3-5 with 14 KOs. The 5 draws are very interesting, and you have to wonder what led to those outcomes against the only undefeated fighters he fought in that time of his career.
